February + March recap
I've been busy, okay?
If March comes in like a lion, it’s still roaring over here. Somebody please call the April lambs and tell them they’re welcome anytime. The month is already almost over so this post is doubly overdue but, in my defense, I’ve been busy, okay??
No sooner did I upload my EOM Goodreads graphic to my Instagram story on February 28 than I started having contractions. After 40 weeks and one day, plus a very quick four and a half hours of labor, my daughter was born. I like to think she wanted me to finish my monthly reading list. We’re home, happy, healthy and extremely tired. So here’s a quick recap for last two months because I am currently running on 13% of my total brain capacity.
Please send your recommendations for comfort reads that will keep me company during 3 AM feeds. Anything to keep from doomscrolling and ordering more unnecessary baby items on Amazon in the middle of the night.
Books I read in February and March
What My Bones Know - Stephanie Foo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A searing memoir about trauma. Stephanie used to work in public radio and this book made the rounds on many NPR programs when it first came out. Her storytelling ability and unflinching vulnerability really shine through here. Content warning: complex PTSD and family trauma
The Art of Catching Feelings - Alicia Thompson ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A baseball-themed hidden identity rom-com. This one explores how sometimes your fullest self is more genuinely reflected when hiding behind technology (in this case, a phone) instead of in person. It’s light, it’s fun, it got me ready for baseball season.
This Summer Will Be Different - Carley Fortune ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
All aboard the Carley Fortune train. This book had me googling flights to Prince Edward Island for a vacation. The story is a slow burn romance that will sing for anyone who has can’t stop thinking about a steamy, past summer fling.
One Perfect Couple - Ruth Ware ⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Love Island” meets “Ten Little Indians." Thrilling and a dark commentary on the state of influencers on reality TV.
Not in Love - Ali Hazelwood ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not my favorite of Ali Hazelwood’s. It’s like her others in that it centers a romance featuring a woman in STEM, but this time there’s a bit more baggage involved.
Lightlark - Alex Aster ⭐️
Boring! Predictable! The writing was bad and the twist was blatant from the jump. I can’t believe I even finished this.
Lies and Weddings - Kevin Kwan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Juicy class drama from Kevin Kwan? Sign me up. I love how he gives us a peak into how to ultra-rich live, and what it’s like to be an interloper who doesn’t quite feel like they belong there.
Slow Dance - Rainbow Rowell ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was slow, it’s right there in the title.
